There’s a lot of talk of healing – releasing, processing and so on, but what does it actually mean and what’s actually being healed?
We are born with a trauma body that’s passed down through what’s called “generational trauma” from our ancestors.
There’s two ways that this generational trauma is passed on to us – one is genetically – the trauma causes genetic changes in our parents that are then inherited by us, and two is through our upbringing when our parents project their own fears and traumas onto us and we subconsciously take them onboard as our own.
This is why we see the same issues running generationally through families
We also absorb the planetary trauma – whether the world is generally in a heightened state of fear and war, or a lowered state of fear and war.
We’re energetic beings living in a sea of energies. We become attuned energetically to those around us.
When others are in a heightened state of fear, it becomes contagious and we absorb it whether we intend to or not.
And lastly, of course is our own trauma that we accumulate.
As I’ve explained in another article, trauma isn’t a specific event, but it’s our ability to process and discharge the event in the moment.
When something happens that we don’t like or don’t want to feel, we resist it. We escape up into our heads and create a story around it.
This resistance, stores the event in the trauma body.
When we can fully process and discharge an overwhelming event in the moment, there is no traumatic imprint.
When we don’t, because we don’t know how or we’ve been shamed into not crying, expressing emotion or acting in a socially inappropriate way, the trauma becomes stored in our subconscious trauma body, and will continue to manifest in other ways through mental symptoms, excessive reactions to triggers, a dysregulated nervous systems or physical symptoms.
Healing is the emptying of the trauma body.
That’s it – nothing more, nothing less.
There are two approaches to healing – top down, where we work with the mind in order that the work moves down from the conscious mind to the subconscious to the nervous system to the body, and bottom up where we work with the body and the process flows the other way.
In my own experience, body and somatic work is one of the most effective at releasing stored trauma.
The next is through moment, travel and creating the right environment.
While it’s true that you can’t outrun your problems and your trauma body, as I said before, we’re energetic beings living in a sea of energies. It’s significantly harder to heal the trauma body in the same environment and around the same people that originally contributed to it.
When we begin to acknowledge and heal the trauma body, it’s important to be around safe people.
What do I mean by that? People who have a sufficient level of awareness not to continue blindly acting out their own pain in a way that is detrimental to your growth and healing.
Now that’s only half the truth because in reality, there are no safe people.
Not one person can perfectly tread around your trauma and triggers so to create a fantasy of a perfectly safe environment for you. Besides, it would be artificial and useless in the long run.
In this world, we all carry a trauma body and it’s our responsibility to take ownership of it and do the work to heal it.
Last, I want to talk about diet and discernment. When I refer to diet, I’m not just talking about food and drink, I’m talking about the people we spend time with, the media we consume, the activities we participate in and the thoughts we entertain in our heads.
All of this is our diet. I made the decision many years ago now to stop reading or watching the so called news, because I realised that it was just a certain type of hysterical and carefully curated set of stories that transmitted fear, anger, scarcity, outrage and division.
It’s like the constant drone of an unpleasant soap opera more than anything useful or actually informative. It’s certainly not a representative or well rounded collection of events from round the world. So I stopped participating in it, because where I have a choice, this isn’t the type of energy that I want to consume or benefits me or those around me in any way.
I recommend that you become very aware and start practicing discernment when it comes to what you consume and what you allow into your life where you have the choice.
